Central provinces along the Chao Phraya River are also being warned to keep a close watch on the water level. As the flooding in Sakon Nakhon drains off, the water continues to pour into neighbouring Nakhon Phanom. In the central plains, Ayutthaya is rushing to save 100,000 rai of rice fields from being flooded as the level of the Chao Phraya River keeps rising. According to Udomsak Khaonuna, a provincial disaster mitigation official, the risk comes from two factors – heavy rain and the rising water in Chao Phraya river. Pumps will be used to divert excessive water into the Noi River where the water level is still low.
